The Minister of Trade and Industry, Amr Nassar, announced that one of the largest industrial groups in China plans to establish a specialised industrial complex for the aluminum industry in Egypt, in partnership with the Saudi Al-Ajlan Group on an area of 6 sqm.
This came during a meeting with Chinese conglomerate HNA Group CEO Wang Jian and Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Alajlan, vice chairperson of Al-Ajlan Group, at the cabinet in New Alamein.
The meeting discussed the desire of the Chinese group to establish this strategic project, which will be established in four phases, including Alumnia plant, an aluminum smelter, a caustic soda plant, and two water desalination plants, the minister said, adding that this plant represents a major industrial addition to Egypt and the Middle East region.
The aluminum production capacity in the Middle East currently stands at about 1.2m tonnes while demand is about 10m tonnes, Nassar noted.
Moreover, Nassar confirmed the government’s keenness to provide all facilities to the Chinese group to set up this project in Egypt, either by providing the required land area and manufacturing requirements or the necessary infrastructure of natural gas supply, water and electricity and shipping ports and other facilities needed for the project.
