President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, received at the Al-Montazah Palace, Alexandria, the heads of delegations participating in Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF), in the presence of the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El-Molla.
Presidential Spokesperson, ambassador Bassam Rady, stated that the president welcomed participants to the EMGF, referring to the specificity of the geographical area of the forum following the discovery of gas in recent years, which opens cooperation horizons between the regional countries.
The president also stressed the importance of the forum in activating and coordinating the policies of its member states to develop the regional gas market in the eastern Mediterranean in order to prepare for an integrated regional and international energy centre, through securing supply and demand, optimising resource utilisation, and promoting inter-trade relations, according to the spokesperson.
The spokesperson noted that the president also stressed the importance of accelerating the steps of activating the EMGF and launching its activities in an operational manner.
Rady added, “Al-Sisi noted that the EMGF’s message is that there are serious efforts to benefit from the region’s natural gas resources, as well as benefiting from existing infrastructure to serve all regional countries and their development interests. Moreover, it helps to provide a sustainable source of energy, which establishes a culture of cooperation and peace in the region.”
