Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry tackled bolstering cooperation and coordination among Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan during separate meetings with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Al-Safadi, Iraqi President Barham Salih, and Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi on Monday.
Iraq’s Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Halbousi and Foreign Minister Mohamad A. Alhakim were also present at the meetings.
Commending Iraq’s counter-terrorism efforts, Shoukry asserted that terrorism is a common challenge the three Arab nations are facing as well as other states in the region.
The meetings discussed means of promoting trilateral cooperation, said Egypt’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Hafez, noting that they also addressed several regional issues of mutual concern.
In addition, the Iraqi officials were posted on the outcome of an expanded trilateral meeting, which brought together the foreign ministers of the three Arab nations at the headquarters of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry in Baghdad on Sunday.
The trilateral gathering was held to follow up the execution of the resolutions adopted at the tripartite summit hosted by Cairo on 24 March.
