North Cairo Court on Wednesday upheld prosecution’s appeal against the release of a female teen accused of stabbing a minibus driver to death after attempting to rape her last month, and renewed her detention for 30 days.
On Monday, the court had ordered the release of Amira on bail of EGP 10,000, but the prosecution appealed the decision.
The prosecution accused Amira of “intentional killing and the possession of a knife.”
According to the investigations, the minibus driver attempted to rape Amira, threatening her with a knife. The girl fended him off, grabbed his knife, and stabbed him 13 times, Amira’s lawyer said.
Recently, a hashtag dubbed “Amira defended her honour,” has been trending in Twitter Egypt, as users support the girl and demand her release describing the incident as a legitimate self-defence.
