The number of live births in Egypt reached 23, 823,62 births in 2018, down from 25,574,40 births in 2017, a decline of 6.8%, while the crude birth rate reached 24.5 per thousand in 2018, compared to 26.8 per thousand in 2017, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The CAPMAS explained in its annual bulletin of births and deaths statistics in 2018, that the sex ratio at birth in Egypt is still the same as it was in 2017, which is 105 male /100 female.
“Male births reached 12,195,00 in 2018, compared to 13,094,88 in 2017, a decline of 6.9%, while the number of female births went down 6.8% in 2018, recording 11,628,62, down from 12,479,52 in 2017,” according to the CAPMAS.
The CAPMAS revealed that Cairo ranked first in terms of live births with 22,126,4 in 2018, down from 23,911,2 in 2017, a decline of 7.5 %, while South Sinai ranked last with 3,023 births in 2018, down from 3,140 in 2017, a decline of 3.7 %.
Moreover, the CAPMAS unveiled that Matrouh recorded the highest crude birth rate as it reached 51.8 per thousand in 2018, compared to 55.1 per thousand in 2017.
On the other hand, Port Said recorded the lowest crude birth rate as it reached 16.9 per thousand in 2018, compared to 19.1 per thousand in 2017.
On the other hand, the number of deaths went up by 2.4%, recording 56,030,8 deaths in 2018, compared to 54,720,8 in 2017.
The crude death rate reached 5.8 per thousand in 2018, compared to 5.7 per thousand in 2017.
“Male deaths reached 30,697,1 in 2018, compared to 30,089,8 in 2017, an increase by 2%, while the female deaths reached 25,333,7 in 2018, compared to 24,631,0 in 2017, an increase by 2.9%,” according to the CAPMAS.
The CAPMAS added that Cairo also ranked first in terms of deaths with 8,893,8 in 2018, compared to 8,570,8 in 2017, an increase by 3.8 %. Cairo recorded also the highest crude death rate, 9.2 per thousand in 2018, compared to 9.0 in 2017.
On the other hand, South Sinai was ranked last in terms of the number of deaths with 687 in 2018, compared to 651 in 2017, an increase by 5.5%, while North Sinai recorded the lowest crude death rate, 3.8 per thousand in 2018, compared to 5.5 per thousand in 2017.
