The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is planning to partner with Egyptian adventurer Ali Abdo, a Guinness World Records holder, to achieve the longest journey by electric motorcycle.
In his Guinness World Record attempt, Abdo will tour Egypt, raising awareness on several issues in the country, particularly those relevant to environment.
The journey is currently sponsored by the Egyptian Ministries of Youth and Sports, Environment, and Military Production.
It will be 25,000 km, including 75 Egyptian cities and 150 attraction locations. It will also be an opportunity to build the Digital Encyclopaedia of Egypt. The main objective of the journey will be raising awareness about environmental challenges and reducing air pollution and fuel consumption through using electric vehicles in Egypt and the Middle East.
There are certain conditions that rule the trip, including not to take the same road twice, so the trip can cover all the landmarks and governorates of Egypt.
Abdo will visit all ancient monuments, and shed the light on the distinctive character of each area, in addition to showing the rare success stories in each place in science, industry, etc., as well as the success stories in provinces. All the information will be displayed on a website named “The Digital Encyclopaedia of Egypt”.
Ali ensured that the trip is different because he will not travel alone for the first time. “In previous trips, I used to sleep in random places, at a friend’s house, a small hotel, or even in an ambulance station,” he told Daily News Egypt.
But this trip will include an entire team, photographers, and technical support team, which would certainly increase the cost of the trip, although most of the team are volunteers.
He also added that his trips aim to promote tourism in his beloved Egypt. It will make visitors
curious to visit the country where a single person on a motorcycle can tour its governorates without facing any obstacles, in addition to highlighting the huge number of tourist attractions and success stories scattered around Egypt.
The UNDP will present the following” participation at events on the itinerary that are designed to highlight UNDP-supported projects and advocate climate change mitigation and adaptation, natural resources preservation, pro-poor green growth, support to innovation bootcamps, and others.”
