The Supreme Media Council is expected to hold a meeting on Sunday to investigate complaints filed against Al-Hadath Al-Youm [The Event Today] TV channel, head of the parliament’s committee of culture and media said in press statements on Saturday.
The channel is accused of selling air time, violating intellectual property rights, directing insults to certain institutions, extorting citizens, and breaching the media code of ethics, according to Osama Heikal, who is also the chairperson of Egypt’s Media Production City.
On Saturday, the Media Syndicate, headed by Tarek Seada, addressed all workers in different media outlets to regulate their work conditions with the syndicate.
Seada said that “All those who work in the field of reporting, hosting, editing, correspondence, and directing in audio and visual channels should seek a license from the syndicate within two months, or face legal action.”
Saeda said that who will seek a prior license must be interviewed by an evaluation committee which will decide whether the applicant should obtain a license or not.
This came after the syndicate had already taken legal measures against a number of TV presenters in the past weeks for not possessing a license.
