The Lebanese Hezbollah group said its fighters shot down an Israeli drone near Lebanon’s border with Israel on Monday. The group said in a statement that the drone is in its possession.
According to the Hezbollah affiliated TV channel Al-Manar, the drone was shot down after crossing the borders, while heading to the town of Ramia in southern Lebanon.
However, the Israeli army denied the group’s claim, saying that one of its drones landed in southern Lebanon during a routine operation, and there is no fear of extracting information from them.
Last week, an Israeli drone violated Lebanon’s airspace and shot down incendiary materials, setting fire to a forested border area.
The Israeli army said that an anti-tank missile had been fired from Lebanon toward the Israeli border village of Avivim. “The Israel Defence Forces is responding with fire towards the sources of fire and targets in southern Lebanon,” the Israeli army said in a statement.
Hezbollah announced that it had destroyed an Israeli army vehicle and killed and wounded those who were inside it.
Israeli aircraft frequently violate the Lebanese airspace, but the army rarely targets them as the Lebanese army has no air-defence systems. Beirut has repeatedly complained to the United Nations about Israel for violating its airspace.
