Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi will deliver a speech about Egypt’s vision and position on a number of regional and international developments on Monday at the 74th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).
The speech will focus on international peace, security maintenance, and combating extremism and terrorism, according to a presidency statement.
The president has arrived to New York on Friday for the UNGA 74, which started on 17 September, while the general debate will open on 24 September.
Al-Sisi is expected to meet with his US counterpart Donald Trump on the sidelines of the assembly, along with other world leaders.
The Egyptian presidency released a two-minute clip on Egypt’s role in the establishment of the United Nations on the occasion of Al-Sisi’s sixth participation in the UN General Assembly.
It showed that Egypt’s participation in the UNGA this year coincides with Egypt’s chairmanship of the African Union, noting that Egypt will work on conveying the aspirations of the African people in achieving sustainable development, security, peace, and justice to the UNGA.
Moreover, the video featured previous remarks from Al-Sisi’s speeches at previous UNGAs from 2014 to 2018, which addressed Egyptian and regional affairs.
Egypt is one of the 50 founding members of the United Nations and has a long tradition of engagement and cooperation with the UN since its creation in 1945.
