President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi said he is methodically following up the state measures to support the low-income people, through his official social media page.
“I assure citizens that I am personally following these measures, and I assure you that the Government is fully committed to execute the necessary steps to preserve the rights of citizens,” Al-Sisi said on Monday.
The president asserted that he understands the difficult position of the people affected by recent benefit cuts in ration cards.
The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade continues to reform ration cards through excluding non-eligible citizens. The ministry put some conditions and if a card holder meets them, he will be disqualified from the subsides system. These conditions include consuming a certain amount of electricity or mobile credit per month, or enrollment in private schools for example.
The Ministry of Supply targeted the removal of about 500,000 non-eligible citizens during the last four stages of exclusion, according to criteria set by the Ministerial Committee for Social Justice, which includes the ministries of Supply, Solidarity, Communications, Finance, and Administrative Control to ensure that subsidies reach eligible beneficiaries.
