The Libyan National Army (LNA) said that its air forces destroyed sites in Mitiga and Misrata airports, Spokesperson Ahmed Al-Mesmari said on Wednesday.
Al-Mesmari said in a statement that the army struck several sites which it said were used in preparing and storing Turkish drones. The LNA strikes followed information received by Military Intelligence, Al-Mesmari added.
The LNA, headed by commander Khalifa Haftar, said that the airstrikes achieved its target with 100% accuracy, as it managed to destroy facilities, and return the warplanes to their bases unharmed.
Al-Mesmari also added that military intelligence spotted two weapons’ stores and technical devices for the drones in Misrata airport.
However, no casualties have been reported.
The two airports are under the control of Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA), headed by Fayez Al-Sarraj. The GNA is the rival of Haftar’s LNA.
The LNA accused Turkey of supporting numerous extremist militant groups, in addition to supporting the GNA.
Since the fall of former President Muammar Al–Qaddafi, Libya has remained divided between two governments. The oil-rich country has been suffering from a financial crisis due to clashes between militias and forces loyal to these governments.
