The Government of National Accord (GNA) has accused the Libyan Arab Armed Forces (LAAF) of conducting air strikes against the Equestrian Club in Tripoli’s Janzour neighbourhood.
The air strike, which targeted a civilian facility on Sunday, reportedly injured around four children and an adult, while killing five horses, and causing damage to the Club’s facilities.
The LAAF denied carrying out the attack, saying that its air force selects its targets with high accuracy. They denied carrying out any air strikes near the tourist village of Oia, located in Janzour neighbourhood.
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) condemned the “horrific attack,” after sending an assessment mission, which was able to confirm that a fighter jet dropped four unguided bombs on the equestrian club, according to the UN official site.
According to the assessment mission, the club was a civilian facility, the mission also did not observe any military assets or military infrastructure at the site.
The UNSMIL asserted that “attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructures constitute a grave violation of international humanitarian and human rights law and may constitute a war crime.”
