Minister of Environment Yasmin Fouad announced on Wednesday that her ministry has completed preparations for the first phase of the interactive climate change map of Egypt.
The map is designed to serve as a guide to illustrate the current and expected impact of climate change in different areas in Egypt.
Fouad’s remarks came during her speech before the regional meeting of civil society in the Arab region, which was held at the headquarters of the League of Arab States, on the side-lines of the council meetings of Arab ministers of the environment.
The conference came under the title “Integrating Sustainable Development in Arab Issues”.
Fouad highlighted Egypt’s success in integrating environmental standards and requirements in all planning programmes to ensure the preservation of natural resources like water, energy, and soil. This is to ensure the government will achieve its sustainable development goals and preserve the rights of future generations.
The minister pointed out that the joint work plan of the rice straw system is a model for fruitful and constructive cooperation between ministries of the Egyptian government as well as ministries of environment, local developments, and agriculture co-ops in the system.
The Ministry of Environment has succeeded in getting funding of $500m from the Global Environment Facility to implement the Egyptian initiative to integrate the three environmental conventions on biodiversity, desertification, and climate change within a sound and robust system said Fouad.
