Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, expressed his aspiration to reach a legal agreement with Ethiopia and Sudan through the upcoming round of negotiations, which the United States called for next month.
It came during his speech on Thursday at the Arab Parliament.
He added that the meeting which will be attended by representatives of the World Bank is expected to ensure Egypt’s water rights in the Nile River, stressing that Egypt has the political will to sign the agreement.
“Egypt welcomed the US call to facilitate negotiations and resolve differences between the three countries on the issue of filling and storage of water behind the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam,” Shoukry said.
The parliamenary session addressesd the issue of Arab water security.
Furthermore, he stressed the need for the political will of Ethiopia to implement this agreement, calling upon the Arab and African countries to stimulate the Ethiopian side to reach a tripartite agreement guaranteeing the rights of all parties.
