The Canada-Egypt Business Council (CEBC) in collaboration with the Egyptian Council for Sustainable Development (ECSD) will organise a seminar on Wednesday, titled “Entrepreneurship … challenges and success stories”, at the American University in Cairo (AUC) to highlight Egyptian entrepreneurs’ success stories.
The seminar aims to discuss the opportunities of developing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and their role in boosting the Egyptian economy along with the entrepreneurship sector.
The seminar will highlight the efforts and initiatives launched to promote SMEs and entrepreneurship sectors in Egypt, said Moataz Raslan, CEBC’s chairperson, noting that the seminar’s speakers include Ahmed El-Alfi, chairperson of Sawari Ventures, and Hanaa El Hilaly, a SMEs expert, in addition to several entrepreneurs.
The micro-enterprise sector is currently receiving great attention from the government to boost it and increase its contribution in the development process and enhance its role in providing decent job opportunities for youth, Raslan added.
New entrepreneurs with their innovative ideas and projects serve the development of the Egyptian economy, Raslan noted, adding, “the number of small projects in Egypt reaches about 2.5 million projects, a large percentage of them are outside the formal economy. I think that integration between large and small enterprises is key to support SMEs.”
The seminar will review a number of success stories of projects of some young entrepreneurs, which are based on creativity and innovation, he said, noting that projects owners will show the stages of development for projects and future plans, and how to benefit from them.
CEBC is a non-governmental organisation founded in May 2002 to foster the development of relations between Canada and Egypt. CEBC aims at helping its members develop their relations with their Canadian counterparts and provide a means of communication between business communities in both countries.
CEBC also seeks to support, promote and encourage trade, investment, technical, and economic cooperation between Canada and Egypt.
