The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and the Nile Basin countries recorded about $1.872bn during 2018, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
In a Sunday statement, CAPMAS said Egypt’s total exports to the Nile Basin countries amounted to about $1.204bn in 2018, compared with $1.113bn in 2017, amounting to a growth of 8.2%.
Sudan came on top of the importers from Egypt, with a value of $399.3m, or around 33.2 % of the total bloc imports.
According to the agency, total Nile Basin exports to Egypt amounted to $668m in 2018, compared to $380m in 2017, an increase of 75.8%.
Kenya came in the forefront of exporters to Egypt with a value of $287.3m, representing around 43.0% of the total bloc exports, then Sudan with a value of $207.5m, 31.0%, followed by Congo with $148m, equivalent to 22.1%, and Ethiopia with $10.3m, 1.5%.
In the same context, Egyptian exports to the Sahel and Sahara countries reached $3.136bn in 2018 against $2.725bn in 2017, constituting an increase of 15.1%.
The agency clarified that Libya came in the forefront of countries importing from Egypt at the value of $635.9m, 20.3 % of total bloc imports, followed by Morocco at the value of $501.6m, or 16.0%, then Sudan at the value of $399.3m, representing 12.7 %, Kenya $354.6m, at 11.3 %, and Nigeria $179.2m, at 5.7 %.
I addition, total exports from the Sahel and Sahara countries to Egypt amounted to $1.1bn in 2018.
