Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi said on Thursday that Egyptian women had a remarkable role during the uprising of 30 June in 2013, as millions of them took to streets calling for change and protecting their Egyptian identity.
Al-Sisi’s remarks came during a session in the second day of Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development on maximizing African women’s contribution to peace, security, and development.
“Egyptian women took to streets in very critical and difficult conditions and said: We will never let this continue forever. This situation must be changed,” Al-Sisi said.
The president asserted that he will never approve any law that is prejudice against women’s rights.
Al-Sisi hailed Egyptian women for not complaining even once about their sons’ service in army and sacrifices in the state’s war against terrorism over the past five years.
Women bear patiently the country’s economic reforms, and no citizen came out to oppose them, Al-Sisi noted.
Under its leadership of the African Union, Egypt is taking the initiative to launch the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development to address challenges, security, development, and opportunities in Africa.
The forum hosts heads of states and governments, regional and international organisations and financial institutions, the private sector, civil society, scholars, and prominent experts.
