Egyptian Prosecutor General Hamada El-Sawy ordered on Friday an investigation into a video that was published on social media of a woman abusing her child.
The five-year old sparked a wide wave of anger on social media after the video was published depicting a mother beating her child after he failed to call his father in order to babysit him.
The Public Prosecution summoned the child’s father, who had published the video on social media, while the mother was arrested by Giza police.
She said that the father received a prison sentence for failing to pay his alimony after divorcing two years ago.
During the investigation, the child said that his mother had not abused him before, expressing his refusal to go stay with his father.
Ghada Waly, Minister of Social Solidarity, praised the quick response of the Attorney General. The ministry also expressed its readiness to receive the child in one of the country’s care homes.
