The world is awaiting the Grand Egyptian Museum’s (GEM) inauguration in 2020, the Japanese ambassador Masaki Noke said in a Saturday statement.
He asserted that his country is providing the needed technical and financial support to the GEM’s construction, set to be the world’s biggest museum.
“Japan is proud to support the GEM that will present Egypt’s civilisation to the whole world. GEM will preserve and restore Egypt’s heritage and monuments,” the ambassador added, noting that 2020 will witness Egypt’s participation in the 2020 Summer Olympics from 24 July to 9 August.
Japan will excitingly encourage the Egyptian players including the Football National Team and the Egyptian Judo team, the ambassador assured, noting that the Egyptian-Japanese relations will continue to strengthen next year.
“There were several events that promoted our countries relations in 2019 including Egypt’s presidency of the African Union (AU) and its close coordination to boost Africa’s peace and development in line with Japan’s hosting of the Tokyo International Conference on Africa’s Development (TICAD) last August,” the ambassador mentioned.
President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi visited Japan twice in 2019, firstly in June to attend the G20 Summit in Osaka before he visited Japan in August for the TICAD, the ambassador noted, adding that Al-Sisi met with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzō Abe to discuss boosting bilateral relations.
