About 80 Houthi militants were killed, while 100 others seized, after violent clashes erupted between the Yemeni military, and Iran-aligned Houthis in Naham, a city East of the capital, Sana’a.
Confronted with violent attacks by the Yemeni army, the Houthis suffered heavy losses, as 80 died and 100 were imprisoned. The army also managed to take control of Al Bayda mountain, south of Sana’a.
On the other hand, the death toll of the Houthis missile attack on Saturday had risen to at least 111, due to the “serious and fatal injuries sustained by the soldiers,” the Health Ministry told the news website Al-Masdar Online. However, military and medical sources told Agence France-Presse news agency that 116 people had died.
It was reported that the missile struck a mosque at the Al-Estiqbal camp in Marib where soldiers had gathered for evening prayers. The Saudi foreign ministry said that the Houthi attack “reflects this terrorist militia’s disregard for sacred places and for Yemeni blood.”
Moreover, Martin Griffiths, the UN special envoy for Yemen, had also condemned the attacks saying that they were “of particular concern,” warning that this action would fuel the situation in Yemen.
He warned that “The hard-earned progress that Yemen has made for de-escalation is very fragile. Such actions can derail this progress,” urging all parties in the Yemeni conflict to “stop the escalation now and to direct their energy away from the military front, and into the politics.”
