Egypt is planning to establish in its airports separate internal gates and check-in desks for Russian travelers, according to the Russian news agency ”Novosti”.
The Russian agency quoted an Egyptian source on the condition of anonymity that separate portals were presented to Russian experts who examined security measures at Egyptian airports, noting that these portals are suggested to be used specifically for passengers from Russia as well as separate check-in offices.
The source pointed out that Russian experts examined all security measures, starting with the arrival of passengers to the airport, the completion of all procedures, and the examination of passengers and luggage.
Moreover, those experts were acquainted with the work of video surveillance cameras, and the system of access for employees at the airport.
Air traffic between Russia and Egypt was halted in November 2015, against the backdrop of the catastrophe of the Russian company Kogalim Avia’s plane crashing over Sinai, which was heading from Sharm El Sheikh to St. Petersburg, leaving no survivors.
The Russian Federal Security Service classified this incident as a terrorist act.
In January 2018, the Russian President signed a decree to resume periodic flying to Cairo to implement its first flight on April 11 of the same year, but air traffic between Russian cities and Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada resorts is still pending, as Russia insists on the need for Egypt to tighten security measures at its airports.
