Aiming to counter the effect of Egypt’s hot summer on Luxor tourism, the Supreme Council of Antiquities is to apply a 50% discount on the newly launched Luxor pass.
The Luxor pass is a privilege card that allows tourists to visit all destinations located in Luxor at 50 % price cut. The card facilitates where a tourist may journey as it allows them a number of visits to all of the temples, museums, and cemeteries without having to book a ticket for every single visit to each monument in the charming city.
Minister of Antiquities and Tourism Khaled Al-Anany announced on Friday the pass would allow 50% discount starting from 1 July until 31 August, as a means of flourishing tourism during the hottest months of the year in Egypt.
The pass was first launched last August with the aim of boosting tourism and easing tourists’ journey in the city, where the royal pharaohs were buried.
The five-day pass can be purchased from either Cairo or Luxor at the Karnak Temple Visitor Centre. The pass requires a personal photo of the holder, and their passports.
For his side, Mostafa Waziri, the Secretary General of Supreme Council of Antiquities said on Friday in a press release that there would be a standard and premium card.
The standard Luxor pass allows its holder to visit most attractions, except for the cemeteries of the 19th Dynasty pharaohs of Seti I, and Nefertiti.
Both are located in the Valley of the Kings, and are known for their mesmerising inscriptions drawn on their walls. However, both cemeteries are allowed for visits under the Premium pass.
The standard pass is currently sold at $100, and $50 for students under the age of 30, and the Premium one is at $200 and $100 for students, before the price cuts.
