Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad chaired on Tuesday a meeting of the joint committee for projects related to transforming wastes to energy, in accordance with Law No.41 of 2019 regarding the electricity feed-in tariff.
The meeting comes a few days after Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly formed the new committee dedicated to projects that transform waste into energy. The committee is chaired by Fouad.
During the meeting, the minister reviewed the committee members’ tasks and responsibilities, highlighting the importance of facilitating the procedures for investors in regard to the electricity feed-in tariff.
The meeting also reviewed the workflow methodology in listing projects, reviews, and approvals to accelerate the promotion of direct investments to bring about mutual success for both the investors and the government.
Fouad stressed the need to complete the style book for implementing feed-in tariff projects. The book will be published on the Ministry of Environment’s website as soon as it is completed, as well as promoting opportunities available for investment throughout the country and invite investors to submit projects to convert waste into energy over the next two months.
She further noted that her ministry will coordinate with the Ministry of Housing and the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Sanitation for the implementation and technical support measures of submitted projects .
Meanwhile, the ministry announced that Wadi El Rayan protected area in Fayoum received 54,000 visitors of different ages during the mid-year school vacation, including 2000 foreign visitors.
“This reflects the positive impact of the programmes of the Ministry of Environment in promoting environmental tourism in protected areas and managing these areas in accordance with international standards to conserve natural resources while maximising economic, recreational, and social development opportunities for local communities,” read the statement of the ministry.
