Abu Soma Development Company (ASDC) says its coastal resort Soma Bay will host the Golf and Gourmet Week with the participation of 150 international golfers and 7 Michelin Star celebrity chefs.

The event will include the final golf tournament reinforcing its position as one of the top 10 golf destinations out of 828 in Africa.

“Located on a 10m sqm resort peninsula, Soma Bay features resort hotels and residential properties that largely target foreign clients as part of our role in supporting Egypt’s drive to encourage property exports. We are also keen on hosting sporting and entertainment events that prove that, with its unique location on the Red Sea coast, Soma Bay is well positioned as a top destination for global tourism,” said CEO of ASDC Ibrahim El Missiri.

“We seek to position Soma Bay as a leading destination for golf worldwide, not only with the presence of world-class golf courses, but through upgrading the golf areas as well. In order to make golf go green, we use solar energy for seawater desalination in addition to applying smart irrigation systems to ensure minimum water consumption,” El Missiri added.

Soma Bay has five luxury hotels, spa and sports outlets, and an 18-hole Gary Player Golf Course.

In 2019, the U.K.’s ‘The Sun’ newspaper said in a report that Soma Bay resort is the ‘top spot’ for golfers to hold global championships, aided by the stunning Red Sea coastline, thus becoming a spectacular backdrop for players to perform better; “who may be tempted to crack their tee shot over the water in search of the green.”

Seeking to further strengthen its position as a destination for golf, Soma Bay announced earlier that they are beginning to construct a Tim Lobb designed driving range that consists of two grass tees at both ends which can hold 30 golfers each, as well as two practice bunkers and eight target greens, in addition to under cover practice, which is grassed with Pure Dynasty Paspalum.
