Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has started the second phase of fish resources automation in Egypt. It comprises creating databases and an information system of the fishery resources, a source in the ministry said.
The project aims to develop fish resources through information system and remote sensing. These systems would help early detection of any violations to lakes and fisheries.
It would also provide decision makers with important data to put proper strategies for the sector.
The new system will offer accurate data on the size of Egypt’s fish resources, which would contribute to maintaining food security for Egyptians and encouraging investment in the field.
This technology can control the negative effects of activities harming the sustainability of fish resources, improve fishing efficiency, and provide precise statistics to the authorities related to water and fish resources.
MCIT works on developing the project in cooperation with the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, and the General Authority for Fish Resources Development.
The project offers the first comprehensive and integrated database that helps in developing and managing fish resources in Egypt and demarcation of lakes and water bodies that fall under the jurisdiction of the General Authority for Fish Resources Development.
It also facilitates the work cycle and ease the exchange, presenting, analysis, and preparation of future plans for developing fish resources across the country.
The project uses geographic information system technologies to identify and accurately discover areas of violations through comparing the layers of these lakes with modern satellite images in different time to define these violations.
