Egypt Post has completed the application of the new postcode system across the country using modern technology, as a unique 7-digit postcode has been allocated to each group of buildings to increase the efficiency of mail distribution, and support companies working in delivery, distribution, and shipping.
Former chairperson of the Egyptian National Post Organization (ENPO) Essam El-Sagheer – who resigned on Sunday – said the project took two years, and it was based on information obtained from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) to ensure easier access to addresses.
He explained that the system has been made available to American-German express mail service provider DHL to use it to inquire about addresses and determine their postcode, which provides the easiest way to get to addresses, saving time and costs and raising the level of service for citizens.
He said that this system is followed in most of the developed countries around the world and all vital facilities such as ambulances, firefighter and police who depend on it for quick access in emergency cases. This system also contributes to the growth of electronic commerce to facilitate the identification of sites and addresses. It is also scheduled that the coming period will witness cooperation between Egypt Post and various parties to activate the new postal code system and begin the actual start of the project.
Moreover, Ahmed Al-Fangary, General Manager of DHL Express Egypt, said that this step is a leap for delivery companies of different types, as it will help them find addresses quickly and more accurately, as well as reduce the cost of shipping.
