Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Tuesday that the recent storm that hit the country last week had cost Egypt EGP 800m losses, as the storm had devastating effects on the electricity, and water stations, in addition to affecting roads, transport, and railways.
Under the directives of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, the government started to repair all damages caused by the recent storm in the country and carrying out solutions to enhance drainage network in several new urban communities and most affected areas.
Al-Sisi had also ordered to allocate EGP 750m to develop El-Desmy village in El-Saf, Giza, and Zaraib area, in the 15th of May, asking civil society to assist the state in the development process. The president also gave directives to quickly disburse compensation due to the human and material losses of citizens resulting from weather wave, Madbouly said.
Last week, officials said Zaraib area witnessed the death of five people after the rain washed away their homes.
Madbouly stressed that the president directed the government to study the challenges that faced the government in dealing with these storms, especially those related to water drainage, putting measures to face such crisis and overcome it. Al-Sisi asserted the importance of enhancing cooperation to address the effects of the storm.
Egypt witnessed a wave of bad weather, which began last Thursday continued for three days. During the storm, the country faced heavy rains which killed 21 people.
