The Egyptian Electric Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency (EgyptERA) has adopted new procedures for licensing new electricity connections on medium and low voltages to non-industrial properties.
Applicants should fill new connection form and submit it to the eligible distribution company with the required documents attached.
The applicant pays application examination fee of EGP 50 for each unit, whether residential, commercial, or administrative, with a maximum of EGP 500 for each building.
Then, the distribution company shall visit the premises and study its power supply alternatives. The company shall prepare a report on costs of the new connection, indicating the obligations of both contractor and supplier regarding providing transformer or distributor and method of payment.
In the event that the applicant is requested to provide transformer or distributor, a copy of the detailed technical specification approved by the distribution company shall be handed over.
After the applicant pays the cost of electricity connection, provides transformer in the event it is required, and brings the necessary implementation permits, the distribution company is obliged to connect the premises to the network within the set timeframe.
