Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced forming a working group under his chairmanship to manage the situation of the irregular employment amid the coronavirus crisis.
During the Thursday cabinet meeting via videoconference, Madbouly stressed the necessity of reducing the number of employees in office at government facilities to the least possible limit, to ease pressure on transportation and reduce gatherings. For employees not working in the same governorate of residence, they will be given a paid vacation until further notice.
He noted that the cabinet held its meeting via videoconference to set an example for other entities in the public and private sectors to limit gathering and turn to digital alternatives.
As for the circulated scenes on social media of overcrowded metro stations in Cairo, Minister of Transportation Kamil Al-Wazir said the rush period was between 17:00 and 19:00, while the number of commuters in different metro stations was normal during the rest of the day. However, he announced that the ministry will increase the number of trains to reduce the crowding.
