Cairo University President Mohamed El-Khosht announced, on Monday, that a university’s research team has provided initial treatment protocol for coronavirus (COVID-19) cases.
The treatment protocol, which was created under the direction of Professor Ahmed Al Darouti, was presented to the Ministry of Health for review by the ministry’s scientific committee for the coronavirus. The committee will examine the suggested medications in the protocol for their effectiveness, El-Khost said in a statement.
The treatment protocol suggests using two antiviral drugs, one of which selectively interferes with viral replication, with the other stimulating patient immunity to overpower the virus.
In March, El-Khosht had ordered for five research teams to be formed with over 25 scientists and researchers carrying out scientific and laboratory research on the coronavirus. The teams from the university’s Faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Science were to find a treatment, with university professors also urged to join the research team.
