Data shows that 85% of Egypt’s coronavirus (COVID-19) infections who recovered without treatment had mild symptoms, the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Representative in Egypt John Jabbour said.
In a press conference on Monday, Jabbour added that 13% of Egypt’s coronavirus infections are amongst healthcare workers.
Jabbour praised the measures taken by Egypt to curb the spread of the coronavirus. He also hailed President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi’s “100 Million Health” initiative and other government endeavours aimed at improving the country’s health system.
Jabbour said that Egypt took the matter seriously from the beginning, and tracked infections no matter the geographical distribution.
He added that Egypt was amongst the first four countries in the WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean Region to receive the laboratory reagents for coronavirus.
Earlier on Sunday, the Ministry of Health announced 126 new coronavirus infections and 13 new deaths, bringing the country’s total to 2,065 confirmed infections and 159 deaths.
