Egypt’s Ministry of Health recorded 171 new cases of coronavirus on Friday, the biggest daily spike the country has seen so far, bringing the country’s total cases to 2,844.
The ministry also reported 9 deaths on Friday, settling the total death toll at 205 fatalities. Meanwhile, up to 50 cases have recovered in the same day and all of them are Egyptians, bringing the total of recoveries to 646.
The number of cases whose laboratory results have been converted from positive to negative for Covid-19 has risen to 891, the ministry said.
Earlier on Thursday, Egyptian authorities announced suspension of all public transport and closure of shops, malls, beaches, and public space on Monday which marks Sham El-Nessim holiday, in a bid to prevent gatherings that could help further spread of the coronavirus. The government said violators of the emergency measures would face imprisonment or fining.
