Egypt’s National Media Authority (Maspero) has announced the first case of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) among its employees on Friday.
The Authority said in a statement that a healthcare worker at Maspero headquarters has tested positive for coronavirus. The nurse’s last working day was on 7 April and she showed no symptoms at the time. She was working only two days a week because the clinics in Maspero have been suspended as a precautionary measure a month ago, the statement added.
The nurse underwent the coronavirus test on 15 April when the results came in positive.
All the employees who were in contact with the patient will be quarantined for 14 days as a precautionary measure to avoid the spread of the disease. Five people have been reportedly isolated until now, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm.
The Health Ministry announced on Thursday another daily high of 168 coronavirus infections, besides 13 deaths, bringing the country’s total to 2,673 patients and 196 fatalities.
