President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi reaffirmed, on Saturday, Egypt’s support for Iraq’s security and stability, according to a statement by presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady.
During a phone call with Iraqi President Barham Salih, Al-Sisi stressed his willingness to enhance cooperation between the two countries to realise the interests of both peoples.
Al-Sisi also congratulated the Iraqi president for charging new Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi with forming a government, and wished him success in his mission.
Salih lauded the close and historic relations between the two countries, asserting Iraq’s keenness to boost cooperation with Egypt. He also expressed his country’s appreciation for Egyptian support of Iraq at all levels.
Salih praised Egypt’s vital role in enhancing joint-Arab action to confront the region’s current crises and challenges.
The call tackled a number of regional issues of mutual interest, including Egyptian-Iraqi efforts to strengthen a trilateral cooperation framework with Jordan.
Additionally, the two leaders reviewed the measures that have been taken in both countries to combat the repercussions of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.They discussed the possibility of exchanging expertise and available information in the ongoing battle against the virus between the health authorities in both countries, Rady said.
