Egypt has confirmed a total of 169 new COVID-19 cases, 65 recoveries, and 12 deaths on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Health. The new cases bring the country’s total number of confirmed cases to 3,659, with 276 fatalities so far.
The ministry said all new cases are Egyptians, with two of the recoveries foreign nationals.
The number of cases with laboratory results for the virus converting from positive to negative, increased to a total of 1,270, including 935 recoveries, the ministry added.
Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired a meeting of the Supreme Committee to confront the epidemic to follow up on the pandemic’s implications and its developments.
The committee also discussed the details of the curfew during the holy month of Ramadan.
A decision is expected to be made on whether the curfew, due to end on 23 April, will be extended further or not. Madbouly is expected to announce a new decision on Thursday following the weekly cabinet meeting.
There are several scenarios for the government regarding a Ramadan curfew, one of which will see it eased to start from 21:00 or 22:00. Another scenario will see the possibility of maintaining the curfew at its current times. Cafes, shops, malls and commercial centres will remain closed from 17:00, with full closures on Fridays and Saturdays.
