North Sinai’s Health Directorate reported on Thursday the first positive coronavirus (COVID-19) case in the govenorate, according to a statement from Undersecretary of Health in North Sinai, Tarek Mohamed.
Mohamed said the case had been received by the Bir Al-Abd Central Hospital, with results showing a positive diagnosis after the required tests were conducted. Following confirmation of the diagnosis, the patient was placed in quarantine to receive medical treatment.
He added that surveillance teams have performed an epidemiological investigation and clearance work of the patient’s home. This comes in addition to implementing the related medical procedures to follow up with those who came into contact with the patient.
The Health Directorate of North Sinai emphasised the need for citizens to commit to the government’s precautionary measures, to contain the further spread of the virus.
