The government has announced it will subsidize the treatment for a quarantine hospital doctor who lost his vision due to high blood pressure, according to a cabinet statement on Thursday.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly ordered that Dr Mohamed Sami is to be treated at state expense, after he lost his vision due to a high blood pressure induced eye stroke.
The statement added that the cabinet’s supreme medical committee has recommended that Sami be transferred to the International Medical Centre for the necessary medical examination and treatment.
Sami, who was working at the Biyala Central Hospital in Kafr El-Sheikh, was assigned to work at a quarantine hospital in Baltim, according to Ehab Al-Taher, Secretary-General of the Egyptian Medical Syndicate (EMS).
Al-Taher added in a Facebook post that Sami had been working under pressure at the quarantine hospital. As a result, he lost his vision after he started suffering from high blood pressure which led to Retinal Artery Occlusion.
Al-Taher said that Sami is now in the Kafr El-Sheikh General Hospital’s intensive care unit. He noted that the EMS will be in constant contact with the Sami, to facilitate the necessary treatment.
