With Ramadan coming to an end, the Ministry of Culture will on 19 May celebrate ‘Laylat Al-Qadr’, or the Night of Destiny with spiritual concerts via its YouTube channel.
In Islam, Laylat Al-Qadr marks the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.
The rare spiritual performance broadcast of Muhammadiyah Nights by various Egyptian opera stars will start at 10 pm. The recordings come from previous performances held at the Cairo Opera House during the annual Laylat Al-Qadr celebration.
Muhammadiyah Nights are spiritual performances that include songs, poems, religious prayers and praise, which were held every year to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad and the month of Ramadan.
The Ministry of Culture’s YouTube broadcasts form part of the “Stay at Home: Culture is in Your Hands” initiative. It aims to bring theatre performances, concerts and other cultural events to audiences amid the current shutdown of entertainment venues due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The Ministry of Culture’s YouTube channel has attracted 19 million views from 25 different countries, with youth making up 59% of those views.
