Silicon Waha, a company developing science and technology parks across Egypt, began operations on Tuesday, to develop and raise the efficiency of Egypt’s electronics design and manufacturing system.
The company’s work falls under the Information Technology Industry Development Agency’s (ITIDA) “Egypt manufactures electronics” initiative in Borg El Arab and New Assiut.
Hisham Wahbe, CEO of Ideaspace, an entrepreneurial services company that manages the complexes, said the initiative is part of a framework of five integrated programmes to achieve the ITIDA initiative’s strategic goals. One of these is the Creative Electronics Complexes Program.
Wahbe added that the initiative would double local production in this industry and provide thousands of job opportunities and transform Egypt into a strategic centre for the Arab region’s electronics industry.
It would activate the role of talent and large human capacities present in Egypt that can push the country up the ranks of global economies.
He pointed out that these complexes offer distinct packages of support services for innovators and start-ups, such as common workspaces for each complex. Technical support and guidance under the supervision of world-class experts and technicians is also available, with the added possibility of remote services to ensure safety and security standards within the complexes.
The complexes can also undertake delivery and shipment of designs and products manufactured by factories for innovators with coverage of all Egypt’s governorates.
The complexes are managed by a strategic alliance of leading companies and institutions in the areas of managing innovation areas and “Internet of Things” technology. Also involved are “primary manufacturing” laboratories, in cooperation with civil society organisations led by Ideaspace for entrepreneurial services and the San3a Tech along with Etisal Foundation.
