Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has issued a decree appointing Sharif Farouk as Chairperson of the National Post Authority for one year.
Farouk’s top priorities include continuing to develop the authority as a major provider of government services as part of Egypt’s digital building project and developing logistic and postal services.
He will also look to stimulate e-commerce, and ensure human development and training for the authority’s employees. The developments will also contribute to state’s efforts to expand financial inclusion, and develop the performance of the pension dispersal system and other payment systems.
Farouk will also look to review the authority’s mechanisms used to combat money laundering.
With almost 30 years banking experience that has seen him take part in restructuring banks and financial institutions, Farouk also has extensive experience in business development and banking sector employee development.
During his long career, Farouk has taken part in developing banking services for individuals, as well as overseeing management of branch networks and credit risk management. This has been in addition to managing corporate loans and overseeing business development, and management and employee training.
Farouk has been First Vice Chairperson, CEO and Managing Director of Nasser Social Bank since March 2017, during which he was able to lead the bank’s change, development and restructuring.
He haw previously worked with the Egyptian Gulf Bank (EG Bank) in Cairo, the National Bank for Development – Cairo which has since become the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, and at the Egyptian American Bank – Cairo (Credit Agricole).
Farouk obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting from Ain Shams University in 1987. He later gained an MA in Business Administration from the Arab Academy for Banking and Financial Sciences in Banking (Banking Industry) in 2009, and a PhD in Business Administration from Ain Shams University.
