Sports activities and training for individual and teams sports at all clubs and youth centres are set to return under precautionary measures, Minister of Youth and Sports Asraf Sobhi announced.
During a press conference on Monday, Sobhi said all clubs will gradually resume their activities with the necessary precautionary measures in place from 1 July, to fully open 15 July. He added that all restaurants and cafes inside clubs will, however, remain closed.
Sobhi confirmed that, starting from 1 July, all activities will be resumed for individual sports including training and competitions. Team sports will only allowed to resume training, with competitions to be resumed in August.
The minister noted that individual and out-door sports includes tennis, golf, bike racing, and shooting. However, team or contact sports, including handball, basketball, boxing and judo, will resume their competitions in August.
Before every training session, athletes will have their temperatures checked with thermometer guns.
He added that the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) can resume football training, if possible, on 20 July, with Egyptian Premier League matches and other official competitions to resume on 25 July.
Egypt’s Olympic Committee will be able to resume training of athletes, again with precautionary measures in place, for the Tokyo Olympics that are set to take place in 2021, Sobhi added.
He explained that athletes should undergo coronavirus (COVID-19) tests before starting their training camps.
Sobhi also affirmed that these decisions cover gyms and all other sports institutions, as the Ministry of Youth and Sports is keen for youngsters to return to sports activity.
