Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, has met with Belarusian Ambassador to Egypt, Sergei Trentyev, to discuss enhanced cooperation in higher education and scientific research.

During the meeting on Tuesday, Abdel Ghaffar expressed Egypt’s keenness to strengthen the cooperation between Egypt Belarus. This comes in light of the Egyptian-Belarusian executive programme which was signed last February, and which aims to build cooperation between universities in the two countries.

Addressing the current challenges imposed by the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Abdel Ghaffar asserted that it is important for Egypt to benefit of Belarusian expertise in the information systems.

The meeting also tackled a working mechanism to activate cooperation between the two countries in the medical sector. The cooperation would see an exchange of experience, whilst encouraging joint research in education, health, and information technology.

The two sides also agreed on organising for Trentyev to visit a number of universities in Egypt to submit cooperation proposals by Belarusian universities. This would come in addition to many agreements and partnerships being carried out by the two countries.

Terentyev, in turn, invited Abdel Ghaffar to visit Belarusian universities. He also hailed the enhanced relationship between both countries, asserting his country’s aspiration for further cooperation with Egypt.
