Parliament approved on Wednesday some amendments to the National Elections Authority (NEA) Law. The amendments were submitted by the Support Egypt coalition in parliament.
Under the amendments, the NEA will announce the results of referendums and elections within five days of receiving all results from the general committees. The NEA will announce the results in one day in the event of complaints being submitted, with the final deadline for announcing results set at six days.
Earlier this week, parliamentary sources told the Akhbar Al-Youm newspaper that the first elections for the newly established Senate, an upper house of parliament created under 2019 constitutional amendments, will take place in August. The sources said that elections for the lower house, the House of Representatives, will be held in November, as previously scheduled.
