Egypt’s cabinet approved on Thursday a draft resolution to rationalize public spending on some activities with the aim to secure sufficient funds to provide medical supplies, sterilization products, and other urgent health demands amid the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The rationalization rules stipulated in the draft resolution shall be applied by at least 20% on financial allocations designated to activities that have not been affected by the pandemic, and by at least 50% on allocations for activities partially or completely affected by the crisis.
Financial allocations for Health Ministry and its affiliated bodies, and ration commodities providers will be excluded.
On the other hand, the cabinet approved a resolution to purchase 40m cloth face masks which the Ministry of Supply will provide to citizens on ration cards across the country.
About 12m cloth masks will be supplied before July 2020, while the rest will be distributed in batches on July and August.
