Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali Meselhi has announced that two cloth face masks will be offered on each ration card starting on 1 July. The face masks will be provided at affordable prices to all ration card beneficiaries.
The minister added that supplying the face masks will be phased in according to the rate of supply from factories to stores. He noted that a total of 250,000 masks will be distributed on the first day, which will gradually increase to 19m by the end of July.
Meselhi stressed that set prices have been put into effect following a careful study of several offers and alternatives from committees under the Egyptian Authority for the Unified Procurement of Medical Supply and Technology.
An agreement between the authority and suppliers has been reached on the back of negotiations, with masks to be supplied at a price of EGP 8.5 for the end consumer.
An agreement is underway to supply other types of quality face masks within an EGP 6-EGP 10 price range.
These masks correspond to the technical specifications as outlined by the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality, which falls under the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
