The Ministry of Education’s central operations room said, on Thursday, it detected eight cases of cheating using mobile phones on the fourth day of Thanaweyya Amma (final secondary school) exams.
The cases of cheating were spotted at exam committees in Sohag, Sharqeya, Cairo, Giza, Minya and Matrouh governorates.
Also on Thursday, the operations room reported that six students in Qena Governorate were injured in a traffic collision as they were travelling to take their exams. It added that the injured students can enter the second round of exams, and that their exam grades will not be affected
The Ministry of Education said that it had identified the students who were allegedly involved in leaking the Biology, Philosophy and Statistics exams.
About 15 minutes following the start of exams, pictures reportedly showing the exam papers for high school students were circulated on social media.
The operations room added that 11 students and one invigilator were transferred to hospital after showing signs of infection with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The cases were reported in Cairo, Luxor, Suez, Beni Suef, Qena, Giza, Sohag and Minya governorates.
The Thanaweyya Amma exams kicked off on 21 June, amid strict preventive measures in order to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
About 650,000 students are sitting this year’s Thanaweyya Amma tests across the country at 56,591 exam venues.
