Carrefour has inaugurated its fifty-third branch in Egypt with the arrival of a new 900 sqm supermarket in the Zaki Ragab neighbourhood of Alexandria.
The international supermarket chain is also on track to open new outlets in Cairo, which are expected to welcome shoppers during the third quarter (Q3) of 2020.
The Cairo expansion includes a 500 sqm location set to be unveiled in Mivida, representing the brand’s second ever concept store. As part of the brand’s ambitious expansion plan, Carrefour will also launch a 1,200 sqm store in Al Azhar and another 1,100 sqm location in Alexandria’s Wingit neighbourhood.
Jean Luc Graziato, Country Manager of Carrefour Egypt, said, “As our new Alexandria location shows, we are fully committed to helping the communities we serve grow. Our four new stores, which add up to an investment of EGP 37m, emphasise our goal to be a pillar of the communities we live and work in.”
Graziato added, “Crucially, these stores will boost the local economy by creating jobs for gifted and enterprising Egyptians.”
He noted that Carrefour Egypt looks forward to playing their part in the growth and development of the region, whilst providing access to an excellent choice of quality products at affordable prices.
In addition to boosting the local economy, Carrefour is working hard towards reducing its carbon footprint and safeguarding the future of the communities it serves. To this end, the brand has developed a series of initiatives to increase its water efficiency, installing energy-saving LED lights, sensors, and timers on air-conditioning and lighting within its stores.
