Tokyo stocks open lower as investors tentative ahead of long weekend

Tokyo stocks opened lower Wednesday as despite a solid lead from Wall Street overnight investors were tentative about making bold moves ahead of a four-day weekend in Japan.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 43.97 points, or 0.19 percent, from Tuesday to 22,840.25.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 0.44 point, or 0.03 percent, at 1,582.30.
Pharmaceutical, precision instrument and land transportation issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
