The social network site, Facebook, has suffered a significant malfunction that saw services almost completely grind to a halt in several countries worldwide, including Egypt. European countries were the most significantly affected by the stoppage.
According to the website, Downdetector, which provides real-time user-provided updates on service outages, most of the complaints were related to issues in Facebook’s desktop version.
A total of 46% of those affected by the service interruption complained of a total blackout, while 30% faced difficulty accessing their account, and 22% complained about problems related to their newsfeed.
The website added that complaints on the Facebook disruption started on Monday evening, but sporadically peaked between 8:00 and 14:00 on Tuesday.
The most significant impact of the Facebook disruption was felt by users in Portugal, Spain, France, some parts of the UK, as well as some areas in Israel. Users in some parts of Egypt also reported being affected by the outage.
