Kuwait Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmad Nasser al-Mohammad Al Sabah asserted on Sunday that banning air flights from Egypt is a temporary decision and will be reviewed during the coming period.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Al Sabah discussed over the phone the conditions of Egyptian and Kuwaiti expatriates in both countries, confirming the distinguished relations between Egypt and Kuwait.
The two ministers has agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation healthcare to determine the necessary procedures for resuming aviation between the two countries, amid the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
This phone conversation came one day after the Kuwaiti Civil Aviation Authority decided to ban commercial flights from 31 countries, including Egypt.
Therefore, Egypt’s flagship carrier EgyptAir announced on Saturday cancelling all scheduled flights to Kuwait until further notice.
In a statement, EgyptAir said the Kuwaiti decision was based on the instructions of its health authorities to curb the COVID-19 spread.
According to Reuters, Kuwait’s International Airport will run at 30% capacity starting from Saturday, which would increase gradually in the upcoming months.
